Patricia Smith puts up a shot in an earlier game against wasatch

On a cold Tuesday night, Carbon girl's basketball team traveled to Union for their second game of the season. With the first game jitters out of the way for the young team, they were ready to play some ball. The squad almost let the game slip away, but pulled off a 39-37 win to put record at 1-1 for the year.

Both teams started slow in the first quarter with the Dinos dropping behind by three in the first quarter of play. Adjusting their offense, they roared back with 17 points in the second to take a three point edge into the locker room.

After the break the Dinos really poured it on, holding the Cougars to three while piling on ten. It looked like Carbon would roll to an easy victory, but Union was not ready to roll over and die. The Cougars out scored the Dinos 13-5 in the final quarter of play.

The entire game came down to the final three seconds of action when Julia Potts was fouled. She went to the line and calmly hit both her shots to give Carbon the two point win.

"Stressful!" was how Coach Carlson summed up the game. "We though we'd be ok down the stretch, but you have to give credit to Union, they played hard and fought their way back into the game."

Sophomore Patricia Smith led Carbon with 10 points. Julia Potts and Megan Garvin added nine. Julia Potts also had the game winning pair of free throws. Team mate Ericka Potts pulled in six rebounds and added a couple of key free throws early in the game to get the Dino momentum rolling.

Next up for the girls is a home game on Saturday, December 2nd. Game time will be at 7:00 at the Carbon High gym.
